Our latest Reliable Clean City Project, Idlewild, is a substation set to enhance the reliability and capacity of the electrical grid in southeast Queens. Idlewild is part of a $1.2 billion investment to modernize the grid, with the goal to be fully operational by 2028. Congratulations to our three employees who received the EPRI Technology Transfer Awards for their contributions to advancing sustainable energy practices and research on clean heat solutions. This study focused on electrification technology for building heating systems, which aligns with NY State’s climate goals. They evaluated the effectiveness of geothermal and air-source heat pumps in reducing emissions and reliance on fossil fuels to enhance safety, reliability, and aid in the Clean Energy transition. “Our great workers apply their expertise and curiosity every day to come up with new strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ensure a safe, sustainable region and planet for generations to come,” said Matthew Ketschke, President, Con Edison.
