Contrary to popular fears, “the grid is not going to collapse” because of electric cars, says Britt Reichborn-Kjennerud, our Director of E-mobility. “The bigger concern is that if we don’t plan differently for this very fast-increasing load, the grid won’t be ready in time to support the transition.” Utilities, carmakers, and energy thought leaders are actually starting to look at EVs differently because of their untapped energy storage potential. With the growing number of EVs in NYC, we are evolving our planning processes to prepare the grid for the projected rapid growth in EV loads on our system. This is so we can be ready ahead of time to support our customer's EV charger installations, and to electrify their fleets. link to The New York Times story (requires sign up): http://spr.ly/604651DjM #EV #Evs #electricvehicle #power

Powering NYC, Westchester, and leading the clean energy transition.
About us
We provide power to more than 10 million people and businesses across NYC and Westchester. Reliability and accessibility are central to what we do and how we provide energy service. Leading the industry to power tomorrow is our other focus- we are committed to aggressively transitioning away from fossil fuels to a net-zero economy by 2050. To help achieve this we collaborate with customers, regulators, policymakers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure our clean energy future is informed by principles of affordability, equity, and environmental justice. We’re also heavily investing in new technologies and the infrastructure that can get us there. What are a few things we have achieved so far? • Since 2009, our energy efficiency programs have prevented 11 million metric tons of carbon emissions – the same amount it would take to power 1.4 million homes for a year • Recently, we’ve embarked on an 8-year project to make our systems more resilient in the face of extreme weather events

In the coming years, our community will face rising temperatures, heavier rainfall, and higher sea levels. To ensure safe and reliable energy, we’ve proactively improved our system resiliency. We’ve conducted a comprehensive climate study, using the latest projections to understand climate change risks for our infrastructure and customers. As one of 6 recipients of our LOV Awards, Andre Chambers was honored and recognized by his peers for his contributions to his work and posing as a role model to others. Congratulations Andre for this prestigious honor!
Over the last few weeks a phenomena occurred. I was selected to be one of 6 recipients of a very prestigious award. After a few weeks and a luncheon with Mr. Tim Cawley, the festivities culminated with a dinner in our honor with our families and invited guests. My fellow nominees and I experienced a wonderful evening, celebrating Con Edison's LOV Awards. Each winner radiated a brilliance and humility that filled the air with an immense exuberance - and I was included among these five individuals. As expected, occasions like these are truly rare and significant; It's important to understand we were chosen to receive this recognition by those we work with daily who we continue to respect and love. I could not have selected a more vibrant and captivating group to share this memorable experience with that marks epoch of our lives.
